Looking for a Fresh New Look for Your Website?

Seeing as how I'm an insomniac, and that even though I have hundreds of channels to choose from on television, and invariably there's nothing worth watching, the internet is my friend and savior. To that extent I peruse countless websites, looking mostly at design lately (even though I do not think I could draw my way out of a cardboard box, anymore), and have come across many interesting new website designs. Now, since I'm using a free blogging platform (Blogger) I rarely choose sites that primarily offer anything for WordPress, Drupal, or any other "themes" related platform.

No, after rediscovering the beautiful website css Zen Garden, I've become fascinated with what can be done using style sheets. If you've never heard of Zen Garden before, then you should go there and see for yourself
a demonstation of what can be accomplished visually through CSS-based design.
The creators of the website challenge graphic artists to "modify" the Zen Garden style sheet and "create beauty from structure".

Therefore, while bumbling through Wm. Gibson's ubiquitous "cyberspace" looking for templates, I have found a few noteworthy designers. Most of their code is licensed under creative commons, yet the rates for premium designs are very reasonable: anywhere from $5 to $31.

Well, since everything must have a beginning, Let's start with a Swede named Igor Jovic, who has Spinz.se. Granted, he offers only six templates on his site, but they are all quite beautiful. Take NegativeSpace, for example: quite minimalist, yet elegant in design.

The same could be said for Titanium.

His remaining works are very much the same.

If, however, you are not like me and have come to enjoy a more simple, cleaner look and feel, you may want to take a look at CssTemplateHeaven. Here is a great design by Dieter Schneider named Purple Beauty, which is one of his free designs.

This one, Photographers Choise (no, it's not a typo, that's the name), a premium design sold for $5, incorporates the use of Jquery and PSD.

Finally, we have yet another of Sweden's residents, Andreas Viklund. Seems this guy's been around for a while and has even had some of his work turned into WordPress themes. Here is one of his freebies that I think is quite nice: andreas04

There are only about fourteen free templates listed on his site, but he offers many pages of premium designs, such as this one

Which, for about $29, comes with three layouts and colors, and a few bells an whistles, too.

For me, it's wonderful to see what can be done with a little code. Graphics are nice and all, but only used sparingly; and then only to get the point across. In fact, I have a mind to change this blogs look and feel. I mean, why should I write this post and have all that junk littering your screen. I will, however, still use photos and other graphics to emphasize my posts, or to accentuate them: I'm just going to clean up all the clutter.
